    * El 26 de noviembre, tuve una reunion en El Cairo con Sherif Fouad en la Liga de Estados Arabes, donde ellos comprometieron el apoyo economico para los proyectos en esos 22 paises.

Pues bien, esto muestra una gran actividad, de la que no siempre hacemos noticia.

El "bolazo" ese que tiraron en la red es una inconciencia, sin fundamentos."

"A meeting took place at Bireme on october 31st, with Egbert de Smet and more than 15 experts, where they presented the advancement made on TWO Bireme projects going on since the beginning of the year:

• a) ABCD - integrated library package, based on wxis and php, with all the basic functions: database creation, data entry, formatting, thesauri, loans, statistics, periodicals control, etc.Expected date of delivery, before july 2008.

• b) ISIS-NBP - new ISIS version in Unicode and XML, using ISIS and ZODB objects. Expected date for Beta version, end of 2008.

On november 7th, I had a meeting at Unesco, Paris with Jean Claude and Egbert, where we confirmed Unesco's agreement to continue supporting the project.

On november 26th, I met with Sherif Fouad of the League of Arab States, where they agreed to support this project for the 22 Arab countries.

So this shows that there is a lot of activity going on, which is not always in the news.

The alarming "scoop" that some people sent out to the list was thougtless and has no basis."

Estimados usuarios de Isis

En los pasados dias recientes se enviaron algunos mensajes apocalípticos sobre Unesco, Isis, etc.
Yo no sé de dónde surgen estas cosas, pero suceden, pero están llenas de tonterías!!!
Permítanme contarles lo que conozco efectivamente, porque estoy personalmente involucrado con Bireme e Isis.
Les contaré solo los hechos

El acuerdo mencionado entre MS y Unesco fue firmado hace como 3 años, no es una noticia reciente, pero no tuvo consecuencia alguna sobre los compromisos de Unesco sobre el software abierto y cosas similares, y tampoco tuvo consecuencias sobre nuestros productos en Isis.
No entren en pánico, nada ocurrió.

Como la mayoría de ustedes debería saber, Bireme ha estado trabajando desde la ultima reunion en Bahia en 2005, en dos lineas de desarrollo.

a) un paquete integrado para bibliotecas, sobre internet, usando CISIS/wxis y PHP, llamado ABCD.
   este paquete será liberado alrededor de mitad de 2008, hemos estado trabajando la mayoría de este año en el proyecto, está bien avanzado, y tenemos el dinero para financiarlo hasta el final.

b) una nueva plataforma para Isis, llamada ISIS-NBP, hemos enviado un documento a la lista.
Este nuevo Isis surgio como resultado de una reunion internacional de expertos, mantenida en Paris, en mayo de 2006-. Estamos trabjando en ISIS-NBP, y esperamos liberar la primera versiòn integrada beta, hacia el fin del proximo año. El proyecto está parcialmente financiado, estamos buscando cooperación, tenemos algunas, pero precisamas mas.

Hasta aqui son los hechos reales.

Permítanme contarles ahora algunas noticias de entre casa

• Octubre 31 - tuvimos una reunion en Bireme con Egbert de Smet, una reunión técnica con la participacion de unos 15 profesionales expertos en Isis. En esta reuniòn se tomaron algunas decisiones estratégicas para ABCD, alineadas con las soliciditudes de Egbert.
• Noviembre 7, una semana después - tuvimos una reunión en Unesco/Paris, con Egbert y Jean Claude Dauphine, y alli se acordaron estrategias de colaboracion para los proximos dos años entre Unesco y Bireme para el desarrollo de estos dos proyectos. Esto significa que Unesco no está fuera del juego, de ninguna manera. Puede ser que tengan menos dinero del que nos hubiera gustado, pero ellos pagarán parte de la cuenta.
• Noviembre 26, semana pasada- tuvimos una runión en El Cairo/Egipto, en la League of Arab States, con nuestro amigo Sherif Fouad y su Director, y allí nuevamente, recibimos su compromiso de que continuarán colaborando con el proyecto, tal como lo han hecho durante este año con dinero, seminarios, etc.
  
  Estas acciones deberían ilustrar a esta lista, de que hay muchas personas trabajando por detras del escenario. Nadie está buscando aparecer en las noticias, que le tomen fotos, hacerse famoso, mucha gente esta colaborando en forma anonima com ha sido la tradicion entre los usuarios de Isis.
  Pero hay una cantidad de actividad que sigue adelante.
  
  No entren en pánico, hay unas cuantas personas en esta tareas.

Dear members

In the last few days there were some apocalyptic messages about Unesco, Isis, et al
I don't know how these things happens, but it happens, it is nonsene!!!!
Let me tell you what I do know because I am personally involved in Bireme with Isis.
I tell you only the facts,

The agreement mentioned between MS and Unesco was signed about 3 years ago, it is not a recent new, but it had no consequence at all about Unesco commitment on open software and the like, and had no consequence either on our projects on Isis. Don't panic, nothing happened.

As most of you should know, Bireme has been working since the last meeting in Bahia in 2005, on two lines of development.

a) an integrated package for libraries, for internet, using CISIS/wxis and PHP, name ABCD.
   this package will be released around mid 2008, we have been working most of the year in the project, and it is very well advanced and we have the money for it.

b) a new platform for Isis, called ISIS-NBP, we sent the document to the list.
This new Isis was the result of an international meeting of experts, held in Paris, in May 2006-
We are working in ISIS-NBP, and we hope to release the first integrated beta version by the end of next year. The project is partially funded, we are looking for partners, we have a few, we need more.

This are the facts

Let me tell you now, some domestic news

• In October 31, we had a meeting with Egbert de Smet here in Bireme, a technical meeting with the participation of about 15 IT persons. In this meeting we took some strategic decision aligned with Egbert requests for ABCD.
  
• One week after, November 7th, we had a meeting in Unesco/Paris, with Egbert and Jean Claude Dauphine, and there we decided the strategy of partnership for the next two year of collaboration between Bireme and Unesco, for the development of these two projects. This means that Unesco is not out of the game. Not at all. Maybe they have less money than we wanted, but they will pay part of the bill.
• Last week, November 26th, we had a meeting in the League of Arab States, El Cairo/Egypt, with our friend Sherif Fouad and his Director, and then again, we received their word they will continue collaborating with the project, as they did this year with some money.

These actions, should show to the list, that there are many persons working behind the scenes.
Nobody is looking for press releases, to get photos, to be famous, many people are collaborating as has been the tradition of Isis users. But there is a lot of activity going on.

Please, don't panic, there are a lot of persons working

Dear Colleagues

 

We are very pleased to announce that as part of the process of renewing broadening and strengthening the products of the Isis Family, BIREME will have from May 2007 on, and at least for a period of 11 months, the consultancy services of Guilda Ascencio, who will join our team of ISIS consultant programmers.

 

BIREME has agreed with Guilda to incorporate in Virtual Health Library (VHL) platform of ISIS applications and systems the basic module of the integrated library system called Orbita Documental. This library system is programmed in wxis (wwwisis v.5, client/server) with IsisScript and PHP. The functional modules include: creation of databases, data entry, indexation, circulation system, authority control, serial management (kardex), statistics, and other basic modules on the online operation of libraries related products and services.

 

In the upcoming months Guilda and our team will integrate the Orbita Documental library system with BIREME VHL applications and products, which will then be distributed free of cost and open source. It is our aspiration to release the product before the end of the year in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. Other language versions are expected to be developed by other organizations with the support from BIREME.

 

As already announced, since February 1st of the current year, BIREME has freed of licensing all its Isis products and has begun to realign them to the Open Source philosophy.

Es con mucha satisfacción que comunicamos que en el proceso de renovación, ampliación y fortalecimiento de los aplicativos y productos de la Familia Isis, BIREME contará a partir de mayo de 2007, y por un periodo mínimo de 11 meses, con la consultoría de Guilda Ascencio, quien se suma a nuestro equipo de consultores programadores en ISIS.

 

BIREME ha acordado con Guilda la integración en la plataforma de aplicativos y productos de la Biblioteca Virtual en Salud (BVS) el módulo básico del sistema integrado de gestión de bibliotecas llamado Orbita Documental. Este sistema está programado en wxis (wwwisis v.5, cliente/servidor) con IsisScript y PHP. El módulo comprende: creación de bases de datos, carga de datos, indización, préstamos, control de autoridades, manejo de publicaciones periódicas, estadísticas, y otros módulos básicos de operación online de productos y servicios de bibliotecas.

 

En los próximos meses Guilda, con la colaboración de nuestro equipo, hará la integración del sistema de bibliotecas Orbita Documental con los productos de la BVS de BIREME, que luego será distribuido en forma gratuita y en código abierto. Es nuestra aspiración liberar este producto antes de fin de año, con interfaces en español, inglés, y portugués. Interfaces en otros idiomas deberán ser desarrolladas por otras instituciones con el soporte de BIREME.

 

Como ya fue anunciado, a partir del 1º de febrero de este año, BIREME ha liberado de licencias todos sus productos en Isis, y ha comenzado a realinearlos a la filosofía de Open Source,
